The Equality Bill has been through its second reading in the House of Commons. The Bill, if enacted, would both harmonise and overhaul the law on discrimination. The Bill has now completed the commons committee stage in the House of Commons and  The House of Commons Public Bill Committee has made relatively few amendments to the Bill.  The main changes cover the proposed introduction of a new provision dealing with multiple discrimination and amendment to the definition of discrimination relating to pregnancy and maternity. The Bill will now pass through the Report stage when further amendments can be made. It will then move on to the House of Lords towards the end of the year. The Government aims to enact the Equality Bill during 2010. For further details on the changes please click here
